The Reason Serena Williams Wears Black Tape On Her Face
Serena Williams has worn a piece of black tape on the right side of her cheek at numerous tennis tournaments. This has led to fans wondering what the facial accessory is for. According to The Times, the 40-year-old tennis champion is wearing kinesiology tape on her face. Williams is said to be using the tape in order to try to relieve any pain or pressure caused by her long-standing sinus issues. While the tennis star has not publicly commented on the strips of tape, she has commented on her sinus issues. Williams admitted to reporters in 2007 that she was a “sinus sufferer” and had difficulty training because of it. "My secret’s out. I’m a sinus sufferer. Playing tennis or pretty much doing anything every day is not easy when you have sinuses," Serena Williams. Physical therapists use Kinesio tape as a way to treat their patient's pain caused by sports injuries. CEO of KT Tape Greg Venner says the company does not endorse the use of kinesiology tape on the face. Venner says the tape has not been clinically tested for use on the face.
