Graeme McDowell Received Death Threats For Joining LIV Golf Tour
Northern Irish golfer Graeme McDowell claims he has received death threats for joining the LIV Golf tour. Golfers who have chosen to join the tour have been heavily criticized as it is backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. During a press conference before the first LIV Golf event, McDowell said the murder of Jamal Khashoggi is “reprehensible”. He said that he is “proud” to help Saudi Arabia use golf to “get to where they want to be” and “help grow the sport”. The athlete told the BBC that since the press conference he can't look at social media without someone telling him to “go die”. McDowell wishes he had “said nothing” and says his “moral integrity” is being attacked. He also noted that he has played golf in “countries whose human rights records could probably be torn apart as well”.
