The two have a very unique friendship. Back in May of 2018, McKinley was on her way to preschool with her grandmother when their car was hit from behind by a large vehicle. It was then that Elliot, whose family is friends with McKinley's family, began to regularly visit McKinley in the hospital while she was recovering from a traumatic brain injury. Now that McKinley has made a full recovery, the tables have turned, and she now visits Elliot at his football games, as his number one Cheerleader! In our second story of the week, we visit a cafe that's working to change how people view those with disabilities, one cup of coffee at a time. We spoke with Pamela Donovan, the owner of 'Ethan and the Bean', a cozy cafe in Little Falls, New Jersey, with an extraordinary mission. The mission of the cafe is to employ individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, such as autism, asperger's, and down syndrome, and to change the mindset of society and how people perceive persons with disabilities. As bushfires continue to ravage New South Wales and other parts of Australia, heroic rescue missions for people and wildlife are on the rise as fires spread; bonding the country during a time of heartbreak. Taylor the rescue dog is trained to find koalas hiding in trees where her handler and other animal rescuers are able to extract the koala. Watch this amazing footage of dog rescues and the heroes risking their lives to save Australian wildlife. An estimated 1 billion animals are presumed dead from the devastating Australian fires. The NSW bushfires have raged since September 2019. This is one of the worst fire seasons Australia has ever seen. Environmentalists believe this is a direct result of the growing climate crisis. Operation Rock Wallaby is an aerial food program that is helping animals that survived the bushfires. This org dumps food via helicopter to the animals below due to their natural food sources being depleted. The community of Melbourne came together to take care of Australia's heroic first responders by cooking them meals and collecting supplies for those in need. This Islamic society cooked meals and delivered essential rescue and self-care supplies to the exhausted fire firefighters. The medical shock inspired her to prioritize her health and reshape her life. She discovered vegan eating and eventually opened 'Gangster Vegan' restaurant to inspire others to eat more healthily.
